Subject: The European Parliament underlines that the instruments adopted thus far in the area of asylum policy have only set minimum common standards. This legislation does not mean levelling down to the bottom, and lowering the protection and the quality of reception. To facilitate and speed up the harmonisation in the area of asylum policy, the European Parliament calls on to restore to the Court of Justice its full powers in the area of preliminary rulings granted to it pursuant to Title IV of the EC Treaty.
