Subject: The European Data Protection Supervisor welcomes the fact that the German Presidency is putting a lot of effort into the negotiations regarding the Council Framework Decision on the protection of personal data in the third pillar. He regrets, however, that the legislative quality of the new text is unsatisfactory. This proposal fails to meet in many aspects the level of protection required by Convention 108 and adds new complexities to the dossier, by extending the applicability of the Framework Decision to Europol, Eurojust, as well as proposing the creation of a Joint Supervisory Body.
